Pune is the second largest city of Maharashtra. It is the 8th largest urban agglomeration in India with a population of 5 million. It is situated 560 meters above sea level on the Deccan plateau, at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha River. The nearest port is Mumbai, 150 kilometers to the west.
Pune has a glorious history of nearly 1600 years. Pataleshwar caves (Near JM Road) from 5th century is a evidence for Pune’s old settlements. Rastrakut Kings had built a beautiful temple of Shiva called Punyeshwar, which was unfortunately destroyed during sultan’s attack on city in 13th century.
